The Tuscan town of Vinci honoured its most famous son, Leonardo (da Vinci), during the celebrations marking the 500th anniversary of his death in 1519. A new da Vinci exhibit was inaugurated on April 15th, da Vinci’s birthday (1452), by Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella.
The young Leonardo was actually born just 3 km away from Vinci in the village of Anchiano, the illegitimate son of Ser Piero da Vinci. From Anchiano and Vinci, where he had been baptised in the church next to the town’s castle, Leonardo’s incredible works regarding the world of art, mechanics and also biology took him to Florence, Rome, Milan and also to France where he eventually died on May 2nd 1519 (he's buried in the church of Saint-Floretin in Ambroise).
The new exhibit also contains Leonardo’s very first work of art, the “Landscape”, which dates back to August 5th, 1473.

In light of the celebrations marking this incredible genius several other art exhibits are currently on display in and around Vinci.
