I first discovered the most beautiful city in the world, aka Venice, in 1966 when I came to Italy for the very first time to meet my relatives up in Udine.
According to “The Economist”, the city’s Biennale is the world’s most important international cultural exhibition and is hosted every two years in Venice. It's organized every two years and since 1895, which makes it the oldest of its kind.
Here below a piece by Laurie Anderson.
I’ve been to about 10 editions of the Biennale and some of the artwork NEVER ceases to amaze me (some events were also tied to Daniela covering the American pavilion there as part of her work at the U.S. Embassy in Rome…and I also got to tag along for free in some of Venice’s finest hotels). Let us just say it’s a paradise for ALL photographers out there!
For socio-political reasons both the Russian and Israeli pavilions were closed (a partial Israeli pavilion was instead placed in anther area of the Biennale).
The Biennale takes place on the grounds of the Giardini and Arsenale areas of Venice. The event this year runs until November 22nd, 2026.
