Rome’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri presides over the 80th edition of the “Premio Roma” international rose competition, May 21st, 2022.

Rome’s famous rose garden which is located right in front of the city’s famous Circus Maximus and Palatine Hill (where Rome was founded some 2,797 years ago) hosted the 80th edition of the “Premio Roma” (Rome Prize) international rose competition.

The rose garden currently occupies 10,000 square meters and was once home from 1645 to 1934 to Rome’s Jewish Community’s Cemetery.  The “Premio Roma”, which dates back to 1933, saw this year 88 different roses from Belgium, Denmark, France, England, Italy, New Zealand, Holland, Poland and the U.S.

France was this year’s big winner taking home eight awards.  The event’s guest of honor was Rome’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
