Italy, and in particular Rome, is currently celebrating its November 4th “Armed Forces’ Day” at the Circus Maximus (all of Italy’s Armed Forces are on hand with their stands and military wares).
The event dates back to 1922 as a way of commemorating the end of World War 1. The specific date, November 4th, was chosen as a way of honoring the sacrifice of the fallen armed forces and the burial in the center of Rome of the Unknown Soldier.
This event, which runs until November 4th, 2026, is particularly important because a wreath has been laid at the Circus Maximus in honor of four Italian army personnel that perished on October 29th, 2025 in a crash aboard a Chinook transport helicopter in the town of Brcko in the Bosnia-Herzegovina area (eleven other army personnel were injured in that crash).
