Under splendid weather conditions the Eternal City was awash with thousands of supporters and members of Rome’s gay community for the yearly Gay Pride Parade.
Organizers estimated that well over 50,000 people marched through the streets of Rome and right in front of the Coliseum, including several long caravans (some of the largest contingents representing foreign embassies in Rome were the Canadian, Dutch and British ones).
The peaceful and highly colorful event, which was headed by Rome’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri, was somewhat controversial this year as the right-leaning regional government of Lazio did not grant its patronage to the parade.
Missing from the event was also Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who was preparing another important official visit to Tunisia.
