“The Sovereign Image” exhibit at Rome’s Palazzo Barberini, March 17th, 2023

Rome’s central Palazzo Barberini is currently hosting “The Sovereign Image” exhibit which celebrates the 400^th anniversary of the election of Maffeo Barberini in 1623 as Pontiff, and for 20 years (Barberini was also involved in the Galileo Galilei affair).   As they say, "The baroque period was born in Rome and under the Barberini"!

 
There are more than 80 works of art by great artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Caravaggio, Nicolas Poussin and others.  Forty different museums and galleries, including the JP Getty Museum in Los Angeles, have been involved in the exhibit.

On hand during the press conference was the director of Palazzo Barberini, Flaminia Gennari Santori, and Sebastian Schutze from the University of Vienna.
