Vincent Van Gogh’s masterpieces at Rome’s Palazzo Bonaparte, October 7th, 2022.

Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh was born on March 30th, 1853. On July 29th, 1890 and at the young age of 37 he shot himself in the chest in the fields of Auvers.

On the eve of the 170th anniversary of his birth, Rome’s central Palazzo Bonaparte (Napoleon’s mother once lived there) will be hosting until March 26th, 2023 an exhibit that includes 50 paintings by the famous artist (whose career only lasted 10 years) from the Kroller-Muller museum of Otterlo.

One of the paintings on hand is Van Gogh’s famous “Self-Portrait”, one of the many that he had painted of himself (one of them was recently discovered at Edinburgh’s National Galleries of Scotland.  After his death, the painting fell into the hands of the widow of Vincent’s brother Theo.  It was eventually purchased by Evelyn St. Croix Fleming who was the mother of Ian, the man who created the world’s most famous secret agent, James Bond).
