Italian President Sergio Mattarella led the celebrations for Italy’s 80th anniversary as a Republic (after a devastating WWII on June 2nd, 1946 Italians got to vote for either a Monarchy or a Republic. They chose the latter).
A parade which also included some of Italy’s top-notch army units and military hardware took place in Rome’s central Via dei Fori Imperiali. The celebrations also included fly-overs by helicopters and Italy’s world famous "Frecce Tricolori" aerobatic team.
