Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Rome’s Palazzo Chigi (the seat of the Italian government).
Security was exceptionally tight as Rubio was in the Eternal City for a three-day official visit which also included a meeting with Pope Leo XIV and his Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Prior to his encounter with Meloni Secretary Rubio met with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani at the Farnesina (the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry).
Amid rocky U.S.-Italian relations Meloni and Rubio met to discuss the current situation in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz and also bilateral relations between Rome and Washington.
