Rome, aka the Eternal City, has just inaugurated two new metro/subway stops on its C line (the other metro lines are A and B). One stop, Metronia, is located just a hop, skip and a jump from your correspondent’s home.
A rather amazing engineering feat has been undertaken in order to build these new stops which, for the time being, also include the world-famous Coliseum (which also connects to the B line). Archeological artifacts are on display here and there for the general public/traveller to see. In Metronia’s case very ancient army barracks have finally seen the light of day and may have eternally been buried had it not been for this new metro stop (which also includes a museum).

On hand for the official inauguration were Rome’s mayor Roberto Gualtieri, Italy’s transportation minister Matteo Salvini and his cultural heritage colleague Alessandro Giuli. On the list of the next metro stop is the very central Piazza Venezia which is located just a few hundred meters from the Coliseum metro stop.
