Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella Honours Both The Women’s And Men’s Volleyball World Champions , October 8th, 2025

Italian President Sergio Mattarella honoured at the Quirinale Presidential Palace both the women’s and men’s volleyball world champions. 

Under Argentine-born head coach Julio Velasco (73 years old too!) the Italian Women’s National Volleyball team took home a few months ago the World Championship title (and last year and again under coach Velasco the ladies won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. 

Velasco also won international titles with the men’s national team and just recently under head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi, aka “Fefe’”, the men copied the women by also winning for the second time in a row the World Championship. 

The special event took place in the Quirinale’s “Hall of Mirrors”.
