The town of Ariccia, which is located just 25 km from Rome, is currently hosting a painting by the great Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi, aka Caravaggio (1571-1610).
The town’s magnificent Palazzo Chigi (the Chigis were a very powerful Tuscan family of bankers as well as popes), whose name is the same as the building in the center of Rome which is also the seat of the Italian government, is currently hosting a painting by Caravaggio, “The Arrest of Christ” (1602).
Arricia’s Palazzo Chigi has a noteworthy museum and was also in 1963 the set for Luchino Visconti’s masterpiece movie, “Il Gattopardo” (starring Burt Lancaster and Claudia Cardinale).
Caravaggio’s painting will be on display at Palazzo Chigi until January 14th, 2024
