Rome’s Christmas tree gets the official go from Mayor Virginia Raggi, December 8th, 2020.

On December 8th, the day of the Immaculate Conception and a national holiday in Italy, Rome’s Mayor Virginia Raggi gave the official go to light up the city’s Christmas tree, affectionately called “Spelacchio” during a press conference at City Hall.   Mayor Raggi, following all covid-19 health guidelines, took the time to discuss the many problems that Rome has had to face during these last, difficult 10 months and to also mention the various events around the city during the Christmas holidays.

The massive Christmas tree is located in the heart of the Eternal City at Piazza Venezia.  The rest of the central Via del Corso is also lit up leading all the way to Piazza del Popolo.
