Edvard Munch’s "Interior Scream" exhibit at Rome’s Palazzo Bonaparte, February 10th, 2025

Rome’s Palazzo Bonaparte (where Napoleon’s mother once lived) is currently hosting until June 2nd, 2025 Edvard Munch’s "Interior Scream" art exhibit.   On display are 100 paintings by the artist.

Munch (1863–1944) was a Norwegian painter and engraver who had infused his subjects with an intense emotionalism, exploring the use of vivid color and linear distortion to express feelings about life and death.   He is widely regarded as being the precursor of "Expressionism".

Having lost his mother when he was only 5 years old, as well as his sister and father and also his tormented relationship with his girlfriend Tulla Larsen, one sees that much of Munch’s artistic work was influenced by his rather dark past: emotional violence, suffocating and anguishing images, alcoholism, near-fatal accidents, nervous breakdowns and several visits to private health clinics.

Unquestionably Munch’s most famous painting remains to this day “The Scream” (1893).
