Barbara Jatta explains the magnificence of Raffaello’s art, Rome, February 16th, 2020.

Raffaello (Raphael), the artist from Urbino who died at the young age of 37 in Rome is being celebrated this year during the 500^th anniversary of his death.    As part of the celebrations, Barbara Jatta, the director of the world-famous Vatican Museums, held a one-hour talk on the artist’s magnificent art at Rome’s Auditorium as part of the “Art Lessons” series. 

A multitude of conferences and exhibits will be taking place this year on the great Renaissance painter whose works also adorn the Vatican’s halls,  including the massive exhibit in March at Rome’s “Scuderie del Quirinale”.

Rome’s mayor Virginia Raggi inaugurated on Valentine's Day the renovated lighting system for the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, one of Rome’s seven major basilicas.  

On hand for the special event and representing the Basilica was Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko,  Barbara Jatta, the director of the Vatican Museums, Rome’s infrastructure assessor Linda Meleo and Michaela Castelli, the president of ACEA Rome’s electrical service company which oversaw the renovation of the lighting system.   At the end of the ceremony all took part symbolically turning on the new illuminations.
